The exact time of birth is not by choice therefore in case one is born during an inauspicious moment then there is need to understand and simply follow the remedial measures in order to overcome any negative influences.
What is a Gandamoola Dosha?
There are twelve zodiac signs and 27 Nakshatras. A Nakshatra which is a Star Constellation is further division of a sign. A set of three Nsakshatras is governed by one of the nine planets of Vedic astrology.
Out of these 27 Nakshatras three governed by Ketu viz. Ashwini’, ‘Magha’ and ‘Moola’ and three governed by Mercury viz. Ashlesha’, ‘Jyeshtha’ and ‘Revati’ are called the Gandamoolanakshatras.
A Nakshatra has four equal parts called Charans or Pada. Only certain Charans or parts of these Nakshatras carry the GandamoolaDosha as given in the table below:
Nakshatra | Nakshatra Lord | Part or Charan or Pada |
Ashwini | Ketu | 1st and 4th Pada |
Magha | Ketu | 1st and 2nd Pada |
Moola | Ketu | 1st, 2nd and 3rd Pada |
Ashlesha | Mercury | 2nd, 3rd and 4th Pada |
Jyeshtha | Mercury | all four Padas |
Revati | Mercury | 4th Pada |
Propitiation (Shanti) of Gandamoola Dosha
If propitiation or the Shanti which means a ritual or procedure for warding off the ill effects of this dosha was notdoneat the time of birth then it may be done under the same constellation, preferably near the next birthday of the native.
A time period of 48 minutes at the starting of Ashwini, Magha and Moola Nakshatras and a period of last 48 minutes of Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and RevatiNakshatrasis not considered auspicious for conducting any Shanti for the GandamoolaDosha so avoid these periods. Propitiation should be performed through a qualified priest or astrologer.
